Importance of Healthy Lifestyle

Parents can reinforce healthy eating habits by asking children, whether they are eating a snack or a light snack, to select healthier food from the refrigerator or to eat a cup of juice instead. Parents can also encourage children to eat breakfast and lunch on school days with low-calorie options or when children are at least 4 weeks old to make their day healthier. By now, however, with the increase in obesity rates among children in this nation, it makes sense that parents are increasingly turning to their children's personal health coaches for help. In addition to coaching for overweight, lean, and eating disorders, family-based coaching is highly suggested as well. In fact, experts from several American and European sports organizations recommend that parents use their personal health coaches to help them support their child's eating and activity habits.

A mother's personal health coach is another great way that parents can better their children's progress. In a family-based coaching program, the coach will encourage his or her child to achieve the behaviors and goals the coach has set for his or her child. This is done through coaching sessions involving a parent teaching at least one child the skill of exercising. As parents learn more about the child's eating habits, they encourage food substitutions in the form of healthy foods and treats for children. For example, one mother may find that her child is more likely to eat healthy at supper instead of a hamburger or fries, or an organic apple instead of a can of soda.

A coach may even suggest adding healthy foods to a child's meals, such as low-fat or low-sodium meats, fruits and vegetables that are more likely to be offered during meals. This practice can also help children control and decrease their portion sizes as they reach an age when these sizes are becoming increasingly important. Parents who are trying to help their child lose weight in a healthy and disciplined manner, however, also need to remember that obesity is a chronic medical condition, and it cannot be easily treated or eliminated.

A coach can help children stay focused on healthy behaviors, but also stay informed of what works for them. Parents are also encouraged to encourage their children to take on responsibility for their own well-being. Some parents also find ways to help their children develop healthy coping skills with their condition. One mother has a special program designed specifically for kids with a coach that involves exercises, such things such as counting calories taken home, and counting, counting calories, and playing board games. Another popular children are encouraged to make sure their self-control skills as they exercise and eat healthy food substituting.
